Surviving the Last Days, "It Is Done!"

Chapter 16 Part 5

“It is done!”

Revelation 16:17-21

Just as when we enter the new year, we have ended an era and are beginning a new. With this verse God is putting an end to the era of the antichrist’s city of Babylon. While the end of our year is many times the buildup to a celebration of new beginnings and resolutions. For some it’s a chance to reflect on the achievements of the past twelve months and for others a moment to sigh in relief that they have simply survived. The new year symbolizes a fresh start for the world and an opportunity to do better, be better, or achieve better than the previous year. As we look at Revelation 16:17 however, we find that this end… is final.

“Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth.”

The earth will be hit by an earthquake so devastating that the city of Babylon will be split into three pieces and utterly destroyed. The mountains and islands that we recognize as land marks will disappear, flattened by the shaking of the world. Verse 18 tells us it will be an earthquake that we on earth have never seen the likes of. There will be nothing like it in all of history to compare it too.

“Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.”

Here the world has become its own judge and jury. The people have decided they know better than God and instead choose to become their own god's, relying on their own knowledge and understanding, or seeking the advice of deacons disguised in many forms. The destruction will come no matter how they try to prevent it. The judgement will come no matter how they ignore and try to explain it away.

“And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.”

Even though God has warned them here in these verses of the cost of siding with the antichrist, they will curse him for the plagues that will come upon them. The death and suffering that will come from these plagues will be very real and devastating. We as believers need to be sure not to hold grudges against the Lord for the struggles we are facing. We are told the road to heaven is a difficult one and we must face that reality in the trials that come to our doorsteps. I strive not to let the hard time overshadow the grace and mercy that is given me. I hope you will cling to the cross in your times of pain and difficulty. Don't let the world deceive you and cloud your mind with the promises of a false price who will be defeated and pay a price none of of want to share.

Little sparrows, those that do not receive Jesus Christ as their savior before the rapture will have a difficult and terrible fight on their hands in those days. Share your light with those around you now and guide them to the cross.
