Surviving the last days (chapter 13 Part 1)

"The Beast From the Sea"

When you hear the word anti-christ, that goes through your mind?Is it a man filled with hatred for God and opposition of all the Christ is and stands for? Is it a supernatural being that has evil powers and will send out troops to kill the christians, or maybe you imagine an ordinary man that has the ability to deceive the world through the power of the devil. No matter which version you lean toward, it sounds like the beginning of a great sci-fi movie. Unfortunately for the world and those who remain after the rapture of the church, It will be an all-to-real situation.

I recently watched the remake of the Left Behind movie and its new sequel. Though it’s been many years since I read the book series I remember the hype and excitement surrounding them. As a teen and young adult I read each new book as it was released, thinking I was learning how things would happen in the end times. Nearly thirty years after the first book was released in 1995 I can see now how much the world has changed in so little time. What we considered high tech and advanced in the 90’s doesn’t compare to the possibilities and realities of today. I can see how the story might be different if it were rewritten in this century.

“Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast.”

Verse 1 describes a beast rising from the sea, a leader entering the stage from a scene of chaos. In this world of online banking systems and meta platforms, few if any, wouldn’t be greatly affected should something take it all down in one fell swoop. If the money systems, news outlets, and social platforms all disappeared, many would be lost and confused. Then add the disappearance of every Christian on the planet and I’m sure you can see how chaos would easily take hold.

“So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?””

This beast described as having ten heads, ten horns, and ten crowns, with blasphemous names upon them will speak evil into the world and the unsaved will follow him like a prince in white armor ready to save his princes from disaster. Oh how easy it will be to convince a world that is already confused about reality, that this demonic leader is their savior. Yet, there will be those who have heard the truth and will recognize this liar. These believers may be someone you spoke to about Christ in the grocery store one day. They may not have believed you then or been willing to change their lives and follow the Jesus you mentioned but when the deception begins they will remember.

“And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If anyone has an ear, let him hear. He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.”

Here comes the application. As with all my blog posts, the main point is to apply the scripture to our daily lives. Believer, now is the time to tell your neighbor about the God of love and justice. Whether or not the believe or even listen is not a power in our own hands, but we have been instructed to share God’s love and word with the world. Every ear that hears His name now is an ear that may come to His feet in those days if not sooner.

This chapter describes a time of tribulation upon the earth after the church has been removed from it but the fact of the matter is the dragon is already here, seeking and devouring those who do not know HIM!

Be strong, little sparrows. Go out into the world and share the love of God with His children.
